There are probably a good portion of individuals who are blind or visually impaired and would give ANYTHING to have their sight back. However, there are a significant amount of individuals that do not regret that they are blind or visually impaired and would not ask for their sight back if they could get it back. They now include it as part of their identity and a lot of times it has helped shape who they are through perseverance, advocating for themselves, taking up different hobbies, forming their career path and passion, etc. Each person is different, of course, so their outlook on their blindness will also be different. However, it is not safe to assume that just because this person is blind that if there was a cure tomorrow for their type of blindness, they would choose to get it.
This is actually a complicated topic that I would like to discuss in greater detail in a future blog post. Idea! 🙂
