Why a labrador?

The only dog breed my family has ever had are Golden Retrievers. They are sweet, sweet dogs, but for some reason I just don’t imagine myself with one for a Guide Dog. The other options are poodles (for those with allergies), German Shepherds, Yellow Lab, Black Lab, and Lab/Golden crosses. I do not really want a poodle Guide Dog. Nothing against Guide Dog handlers who have one and/or need one, but I just don’t see that matching me. My best friend is blind with RP and she has a yellow lab. Her brother, also blind from RP, has a black lab. From day one, I have thought they were both pretty but I have thought the black lab was absolutely gorgeous. Thus, I am requesting a black lab. They match us with the dog based on personality, walking speed, lifestyle, etc., so I really have no idea what I will get. I am therefore trying not to get my heart too set on a black lab. We’ll see, I guess. 🙂

    1. Aww… thank you for sharing that, Jordan! 🙂 All the black labs that I have seen have been the same. But then again, so have the yellow labs mostly. 😛
